The recent crisis in Ukraine, attracting the whole world's attention, shows the impact of the country on the world economy and politics. Crimea' annexation and the military actions in the East of Ukraine substantially changed the country's economic situation and has had a dramatic impact on the energy sector. Dr. Shmelova received her PhD in the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow and worked for many years in the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She now lives in Dnipropetrovsk, less than 200 km from Donetsk - Her presentation can help understand the real political and economic situation in Ukraine.
