The Club du CEPII is honored to welcome Yu Yongding, a leading Chinese economist, who benefits from a truly international recognition. Dr. Yu is a frequent speaker in domestic as well as international fora and a regular contributor to Caixin and Project Syndicate.
The Chinese economy faces many challenges in the short as well as the long terms. As growth slows, it needs to implement the right fiscal and policy mix so that it can maximize its potential while dealing, at the same time, with more structural issues. The latter range from the rebalancing of the Chinese economy towards domestic demand and, especially, consumption, the soundness of the financial system, the adjustment of its production capacities to balancing the risks and benefits of its capital account opening and the internationalization of its currency.
The policy management is all the more difficult that China is now perceived by some in the West as a challenge to their own prosperity and their security.
